That's Not The Point

I never understand responses that simply don't seem to address the question that has been brought up in these discussions ... or comments that simply lack critical thought to add to the discussion.
MrDobalina, nobody is disagreeing with you with the fact that "nobody is forcing you to drive or own a truck, an SUV or any other vehicle". And no, people going about their normal lives simply don't have recourse when it comes to these practices. While I myself wish everybody was driving their own electric vehicles, the marketplace (at this point) is one where a very large and influential industry can - and IS - seemingly, manipulating fuel costs.
I think you are dead wrong on this, when the discussion is about the DISCREPANCY in fuel costs between very close regional areas like Brandon or Portage, or Brandon and Winnipeg (separated by only a few hundred kilometres, at most). Why, when the discussion is about FAIR pump prices in similar markets in close proximity to each other, do you come up with statements like "You are not OWED gasoline, or oil or any of the stuff you complain about ..." At the end of the day, we are all - even you - at the mercy of using these fuels. These fuels are used to heat our homes, and to produce and transport our food, clothes, and other necessities. Even you use them!!! So why come up with these silly statements, when the discussion is not about that at all. The discussion is about WHY local gas stations seem to always want to charge people from Brandon on average about 10 cents more than people from Winnipeg and other surrounding communities. I think the fact that this situation exists is a statement to the fact that some local businesses think it's OK to take advantage of the locals and a complete lack of critical thinking for Brandonites in demanding that we be treated fairly, and not taken advantage of at every opportunity. This discussion has nothing to do with choices, but it does has everything to do with a situation where there seems to be a lack of accountability. Don't for one second think that a 10 cent surcharge for Brandonites doesn't fill some the pockets of some local businesses, in a very big way. That cost is passed on to everyone - even you - as someone forced to live and go about our daily lives in this area. Even the cost of your bus fare is affected through the local price of gas, and it is about time Brandonites start to ask WHY and have the discussion about why we seem to get the bitter end of the stick.
