So I am a 22 year old British girl. Tried the whole POF and tinder thing whilst here however 99% of the guys on there seem to either be after a one night stand or a wife (which never apply to me).  
 
I have lived in Brandon for a whole year now (so still a newbie), but I am slowly finding that this town finds friends from word of mouth. Or so that is how I've made the few friends that I have here.  
 
I do go out a lot for walk/ bike rides as well as enjoying the night scene in Brandon- (which is a lot smaller than what I am used to), I have started to notice the same kind of people that attend the same bars/clubs- so if the British girl notices, I'm sure the Canadian folk would see the same faces regularly too.  
 
Coming here alone has made me become a far more responsible person and a more outgoing person that is no longer afraid to speak to new people and make new friends.  
 
If you just stay home and don't get yourself out there then you wont make friends im afraid. It may be uncomfortable and scary at first but it's worth it for the long run and the friendships that will develop.  
 
Trust me it's very hard in Brandon as it's very clicky here but you just have to put yourself out there and try.  
 
With that being said..... Join a gym, join a dance class, go to the library, go for walks, speak to your neighbours, go to restaurants, go to a salon/spa etc.  
 
The key to a great friendship starts with communication.

Why doesnt ebrandon get an singles group. Hell doesnt have to be just singles but every week or two have a get together. 1.e bowling 7-9 pm at huggys on Thursday the 22nd. or mini golf or volunteering at the humane society to walk dogs or walking at the discovery centre. Times and dates should vary so as many people as possible should be able to make it to one. Each person in the group could organize one event . Teach your favourite hobby. The outdoor guy could organize a hike or teach people to fish.But honestly stop judging people it doesnt matter if they are overweight maybe helping them lose that weight could be the thing you bond over. Make a friend first and see where it goes from there Online can be a great way to meet people but it doesnt go anywhere until you meet in person.

For the Match.com thing tried it for a laugh, no matches in Canada expanded search and none in North America. A few weeks later after forgetting about it a email shows up and they found me a match on the edge of a swamp in Florida.  
Pretty sure that is a start to a old Horror movie so going to pass.

There is a group who meets regularly at The Dock and another group who walks at different times.  
Maybe try one of them out, they sound like nice people.

no luck meeting women here as well. Been living in Brandon for 5 years now and it's still hard to meet women. Tried POF before but it was a waste of time. Being 24 and a college student, I find it hard to interact with women, especially at college.

If you are new to the city and lacking friends or just looking for friends in general, get into something you are interested in. Take a class, join a gym and take classes there, etc.  
 
Until you find the right one, partners will come and go. We need a foundation of friends that are always there (within reason). Remember to stay in touch with those friends when you have a partner or you will lose your friends. They won''t be there when your relationship falls apart.  
 
After you have found solid friends, then look for someone to date.

Bonjour, You are exactly right about the not knowing that your a great person. I want to believe that women would give you the time of day to get a chance to find out how great a person you are, but that isn't always the case. Me personally I do try and get to know before making a judgement like that but I have met some really creepy guys that just won't take no for an answer. So sometimes its less stressful to not give them my time. My friends tell me I should write a book with all the crazy stories I have about dating.

POF is a waste, you cant tell who is fake and who is real. Im 33 recently seperated and am sorta shy especially around pretty girls lol.
