Looking around at condos but so many have baseboard heating. I’ve only had gas heating so have no idea what baseboard heat is like.  
 
Is it as good as gas for even warmth? Is it a lot more expensive?

I have lived in my 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo for 3 years now and I find the baseboard heat quite comfortable. I have one in the crawl space that I turn on in the winter, and I never turn on the ones in the bathrooms as my condo isn't very big and they tend to stay warm. My hydro bill has never exceeded $200.00 a month in the winter months. Of course with a forced air furnace there will be more 'even warmth' because there is always air circulating and it will keep the home at that set temperature. With baseboard heat the air can be kind of stagnant: I try to have a fan running just to keep air moving.

I hate it. I find the heating very uneven, plus the heaters take up way more space than air vents and can really impact the placement of furniture in a room. If you have forced air you have all the venting in place to install central air too if you want it.

We had it in our last house and I honestly loved it. You could turn the temperature up or down to suit your needs. We would often turn it down in the basement room and on when we needed. If you were feeling cold, just turn it up a bit and then down once you are warm. We had a bedroom we never turned it on and temperature stayed regulated. I know someone who has installed them in their fairly new home so can have instant heat in a few bedrooms that are on the cooler (non sunny) side of their home.

There are definitely some benefits to baseboard heaters if they fit your needs.  
 
The main benefit is each room is individually controlled. Scenarios that this would be advantageous:  
You have extra rooms (bedrooms) that you don't use. Keep the doors closed and the baseboard heaters turned off or right down that way you're not paying to heat rooms you're not using.  
More then one person living in the house  
If like in our house, you have some people that like to be warm and night and others that like to be cooler everyone isn't subject to whatever the thermostat is set to on a forced air system. One person can have their bedroom temperature set for 23° and another can have their bedroom temperature set for 19°  
 
 
The main disadvantage (in my opinion) is the lack of ductwork preventing a central air conditioning system for the warmer months.  
You can get a ductless AC system which are fine but I find them ineffective at cooling an entire space. Say you have an open plan livingroom/kitchen that's fine but when you get to the bedrooms the only way to try and keep those areas cool is to leave the bedroom doors open and possibly set up a fan in the hallway to push some of the cooler air down to those rooms. The other option would be portable ACs or window shakers.  
 
As mentioned by someone else stagnant air is another issue. You could look into putting an HRV in (basically removes the stagnant air in your home and replaces it with fresh air from outside) I know a lot of the new slab condos with base board heat have these installed.  
 
I have had both baseboard heat and forced air and Personally for me I prefer forced air.

While I think most people would prefer being able to control the temperature of each room separately, I know I would, you don't absolutely have to. There are relays available that mount in the heaters and allow you to run a single, low voltage thermostat, just like the one for your forced air furnace. That way, you can control all of the baseboards from one location.

accompany baseboard heaters because you usually have to keep furniture (and curtains!) 8" or more away from the heat. That's what I remember from the apartment I once had with baseboard heaters. I just found them a pain & much prefer forced air.
