Hi everyone, I hope this is a proper forum to ask this I couldn't find one about religion so I picked this one.  
 
Anyway I've been learning more about Orthodox Christianity lately and I don't remember seeing an Orthodox Church in Brandon.  
 
I was curious if there is one because I'd like to learn more about Orthodox Christianity and feel I should speak to a priest for more information.

Orthodox churches are part of Catholicism. There are plenty of Catholic (Roman catholic) churches in Brandon, but no Eastern/Greek ones that I know of. There are a few Ukrainian Orthodox ones you can check out though.

There is one Ukranian Orthodox church here, but I don't think there is a regular priest here in Brandon. Went to a wedding there once, and it was a priest from Winnipeg who came and did the service.  
There are several Orthodox churches in Winnipeg though, so would be worth contacting them. Or maybe there would be some in closer smaller towns our something. Not sure.

Yeah, the Orthodox split from the Catholic Church in 1054. BUT... the eastern rite Catholic Churches are very, very similar liturgically i.e. the services are very similar. Some of the underlying beliefs, however, are different.  
 
My understanding is, like previously stated, that a priest comes from Winnipeg once a month for liturgy. The rest of the time, many of the Orthodox attend an eastern rite Catholic Church, and I've even seen some at the roman rite one where I go. The position of the Catholic Church is that the Orthodox church is valid, but illicit. There is some interchangeability there, as Orthodox will sometimes attend Catholic churches, and Catholics are allowed to attend Orthodox if there's no Catholic option around.  
 
Your best bet will be to contact the Orthodox Cathedral/Metropolitian in Winnipeg. They will be able to guide you.

Coffee92Lover, Father Mel Slashinsky is Priest at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church here in Brandon. He is an amazing priest and would be able to give you some excellent guidance and resources. Father Slashinsky is priest with many many parishes in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The best way to discover about the Orthodox Church would be to follow him in his travels. I am not a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church but know of the ministry of Father Slashinsky.  
For reading upon the theology of the Orthodox Church, Father Alexander Schmemann is excellent.

I chose to study Orthodoxy under Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada because it was very relevant and while they request you respect Ukrainian culture - they are not ethnocentric and very welcoming of all.
