Sure, an individual may be able to live without sex, but our species would cease to exist if we all lived without it.

We can literally live without most everything that we have, besides food, water and shelter of course . What we feel entitled to far outweighs what we truly can't live without.

the world is over populated causes a lot of world problems less breeding less problems .

The world population growth rate peaked in 1962 and 1963 at a rate of 2.2%, and the rate of population growth has declined since. We are at an all time low of just over 1% population growth world wide.

How about electricity? We are so very used to it, but it really isn't that old of a thing and it affects almost every area of our lives today.  
 
Motorized vehicles and kids overwhelming amount of toys...well how about most stores that have everything we [i]want[/i] not just need & endless advertising? These are other things people can live without.

the vast majority of north modern population would perish if they had to survive without all the comforts we now have. So few could provide for themselves in a major event such as a winter long power failure. The reality is, now people couldn't survive without groceries and bottled water. How many of you actually grow a garden that allows you to preserve a winter supply. Most couldn't even make a fire to warm up with.  
To answer the question of things you can live without.... that list has gotten pretty small for a lot of people

Of course the thread is for fun. Who the hell would be presumptuous enough to attend a public forum and “actually” tell complete strangers what they can live without?  
 
Perhaps you’re the one who needs to have a sense of humour installed.

Yeah, this is definitely an interesting thought experiment (I assume it's that and not just a general gripe).  
 
Smoking and certain drugs/alcohol, yeah I don't know if there is much there beyond people who depend on drugs for pain management, etc. that's kind of an aside though.  
 
The interesting ones are gambling, gadgets and sex.  
 
Gambling is something we all do every time we make a decision. Essentially, it is weighing possible outcomes with the risks and making a decision. Not gambling, in that sense, would essentially be living a pre-determined existence, without any ability to make unique decisions based on possible outcomes.  
 
Gadgets could refer to absolutely any tool or invention. A gadget, is basically, any innovation. Like a fork, for example, or a car. These are all gadgets, in their own unique ways.  
 
And yeah, the continuation of the human species has been touched on. Also....c'mon, lol.

I could live without 2 of my 3 girl friends . They are always fighting over me !!!!

If you were to ask most wives what they can live without they will tell you "their husband" and most husbands will tell you they can live without "their wife" (except of course when a meal needs to be made, cloths need to be washed or the house cleaned)
