I am looking for someone who might have any idea how to find a family member who has not been heard from in some time.  
 
Not sure if it could be covid related or pre covid as it has been longer then that since he has been heard from. Trying to help a family member. So not sure on all details but starting somewhere is a start.  
 
He was born in Canada but has lived abroad for many years. Anyone got any tips?

Never been to Spain. But most Canadians who live abroad are encouraged to contact the Canadian Embassy that is closest to you. (Some small countries don't have a Canadian Embassy, so British or American if British is not available.)  
Registering at Embassy is voluntary, but in cases of crises , they like to know where Canadians are in case they need help evacuating.  
Start with the Embassy in Spain and whatever info you have on the person you are looking for. Good luck!

You could try looking for him on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin etc, There is also possibly a Canadians abroad page somewhere.  
If you know his occupation look for related links , if you know of other relatives try a work around.  
You could also get in touch with your MP and explain the reason and circumstances and request assistance.

I have tried the facebook it appears he is no longer active there. I reached out to where we think he used to work but being the weekend and a pandemic I understand it may take some time. I plan to reach out to some of the people on the facebook friends list that are from that area.  
 
If nothing comes from that i will try consulate.
