Freedom of speech
2/23/2007 at 2:53 AM
First off I`m a talk radio junkie mostly politics from the states. If I was American I would be 50% dem and 50% republican. Anyways How far is too far when it comes to freedom of speech and does the goverment have the right to tell me what or what I can`t say? I was listening to radio tonight and the were disscussing the Rev Fred Phelps and his church. If your not familar they are the ones showing up at all these American soliders funerals protesting with signs like " Thankgod for IEDs" " god hates F***gs" and so much more. It personlly makes me sick but it got me to thinking.
Should the goverment tell me what I can or cannot say? Can a opinion of mine be illegal? Thats pretty harse. To think that something I might think could be illegal. " I`m playing devils advocate here" so don`t get mad at me. I`m all for less Govt in a big way. They seem to stick there nose into every part of my life. I have to wear a seat belt, helmet,
no more trans fat ect... After turning 18 should`nt that mean it`s " my choice" It feels like sometime we live in a police state???? The states had it right when the drew up the 1st amendment. I have the right to be wrong in my speach don`t I? I have the right to protest peacefully if I want, without getting thrown in jail? as wrong as it might be. When will the goverment be coming into my bedroom telling me what I can or cannot do between 2 consenting adults? The reverend Fred Phelps is a wingnut for sure and you should see his websites....LOL just google his name and you`ll see what I mean. He is full of hate and they hate everyone it seems that does not belong to their church. " remember I`m playing devils advocate here for the sake of debate" I will admit though I do want less Govt in my life. So the question is should we have the freedom of speech like they have in the U.S.A. Shoud we not be able to speak our minds without getting tossed in jail?
I know you can`t go into a crowded place and yell fire because we put lives in danger. Should we not have the legal right to have our opinion and voice it?
I would like to know what other brandon e-groupers think about this
