I have a car that was parked on the street and someone threw a brick through the front and back windshield. I have spoke to 4-5 different MPI workers and have been told all different things by MPI. Basically they said the car would be fine and repaired. Then next call it's written off. Then they say to go to a body shop, (who will remain anonymous due to my mass dislike of them,) and see if we can get the number down. Went and did that and brought it down to $1000 less then the cars value and that was supposedly going to be I that they're going to fix it. Now today we get another call saying it's going to be written off. I honestly just don't understand first of all that an innocent person is sleeping in the house, some idiots come and throw the brick, she has to pay the $200 deductible and then the car is written off? How is that at all fair? They are adding up damage from an accident over 5 years ago into the total. Also, the first time they said we'd get $4800 for the car and today it is now $2200. Also the severe lack of communication between the auto body place and MPI giving us all contradicting stories about the car. Is there anything that can be done to help her as she is broke since MPI is obviously not helping at all. It's cause serious anxiety as no one is telling the same story. Thanks " |

if you had damage done to your car 5 years ago and never cared enough to fix it, why do you suddenly care about the car now? if the car was already a wreck when it was vandalized, why would you expect a premium payment for it?
i'm willing to bet that the book value was originally $4800 but when MPI saw the 5 year old damage that you previously neglected to repair, they gave you a more honest and realistic value.
if any of what you are saying is true, you should have gotten a printed letter directly from your adjuster. it would have his or her direct phone number and extension number on it, with a claim number.
you do not have to pay any deductible. after everything is settled, they will take the money off of the write off amount. i have had 3 vehicles written off and have never given them a penny for deductibles. they either charge it to the person responsible, when they are known or deduct it from your settlement in the case of vandalism etc..
you started the post saying it was YOUR car and ended by saying 'she is broke'. you seem somewhat confused within your own story. take a step back, get your FACTS straight and follow the instructions that MPI gives you. you created this situation by being negligent with vehicle maintenance to begin with. this seems like an outstanding opportunity for you to learn from a past mistake and move forward with enough information to NOT do it again.
