Although I work at ACC now, and part of my job is marketing continuing studies courses like Spanish, I actually took the course myself last year, while I was still at the Sun.
My girlfriend and I took it together with another couple we know, and it was a TON of fun. It starts from scratch -- you don't need to know anything Spanish at all -- and we learned a lot (although since I have a background in French, I had an unfair advantage). There was also a good mix of theory and practice.
Something I didn't realize about the class, but that I loved a lot, was all the Spanish culture that was woven into the language lessons. The focus was on Spanish from this side of the Atlantic (Mexico, Central and South America) rather than on Spain, but we definitely touched on both.
We ended the class with a potluck supper of Spanish/Hispanic dishes and we still use some of the recipes (although, I can't guarantee that every class will do that!)
I'm trying to keep up with my Spanish using Duolingo on my iPhone but I'm quite lazy about it and it was nice to have the deadlines of the weekly class to keep up with studying.
I feel compelled to put on my marketing hat for a second and note that aside from Spanish, we're also offering Conversational Chinese and introductory American Sign Language this fall.
After we run the first-level courses a couple of times, we usually have a good base of students to run the level two courses, and we also offer level three courses, if you really want to go far.
Idea: Some workplaces (like my girlfriend's) may cover part or all of the cost of the course, if you deal with a large number of Spanish-speaking customers. You should ask your boss or manager. We can bill them directly if that's easiest.
If anyone has any questions about ACC language courses, or any of the other courses, please feel free to message me here, or email me directly at hamiltongr@assiniboine.net.
Sorry about the ultra-long post -- I must miss writing!
