I was canoeing this evening and came across a calf trapped in the crook of an oak tree. We tried for an hour to get him free, but could not. It will definitely die if not helped. If you know who owns the land indicated below, please contact them so they can hopefully help it.

I checked the Cornwallis map, and it looks like the land is owned by an "R. Campbell". Also, did you phone Animal Control, or the Police to let them know about this?

For taking the time and effort to care about this poor calf.

I hiked out and looked at it across the river - still stuck, still alive. I can't find the owner of the herd, nor anyone responsible for this type of situation in the municipality. I want to find someone with a chain saw who can go out there and cut the tree and let it loose.

You will need to leave a message and you will be called back. They will send someone out.  
 
Or you could also try to call a vet clinic, such as Grand Valley, who may know whose cattle they are. My sister is a rural vet, and if someone called with an exact location, she would be able to tell you whose place it was. Or the vet might be able to go out and assess the calf, and start an IV or whatever it may need at this point.

I know when I see cattle on the highway loose I go to the nearest farmyard and ask them. Usually they know whose they are and how to contact the landowner.

There's gotta be someone out there with a chainsaw who would be willing to help rescue this poor calf before it's too late. Obviously the poster who found it, knows the location.

It is nice to be able to help in our own backyard if we can.

Oh, good...I have been checking back on this thread to see if help had been found!

I was hoping the report was true and hiked out to this side of the river to look. It's still there, trapped, but alive.  
 
I have notified the RCMP, Cornwallis office, and Animal Welfare. All are apparently looking into it, but nothing yet has been done.

It's incredulous nobody has freed it yet?

Somebody please go with the original poster to free this poor calf! If it's been out in this heat all day stuck in a tree, it's probably in rough shape. I am so saddened to hear that it has not been helped yet.

Stuck in a tree...Has no idea who can save him/her. Animals depend on humans. Someone come to the rescue of this innocent being.

But get real, you have been to the site three times, surely you know some people in this world,or area, that know someone who owns a chainsaw. Find someone with a chainsaw, hike to the site, cut the calf free, or wait on the world and end up with a dead calf.

The farmer isn't going to want to lose the calf. That's a lot of money down the drain for him.  
I'm sure he'll get out there as soon as he can and get it out. Maybe he was at a day job?  
 
Where in the tree is this calf? Like how far up is the crook? I find it hard to believe that 2 adults couldn't lift it out

....happy to say this little dogie has indeed "git along."  
 
It took four hours, some chains, a chain saw, a can of oil and whatever brawn five oldsters could muster, but this calf is back with his owner and hopefully feeling better.

there was no picture. Im just having trouble picturing how a calf could get stuck so bad that a tree had to get cut down. Glad hes been rescued finally though. Good job on all those who helped.

according to OP, the calf has been rescued/freed.
