What to wear to interviews

Hi, I was wondering what should one wear to interviews for an executive type job for a male applicant?
Sports coat or suit? What's the difference anyway?

Go for the suit. Always better to be overdressed than underdressed.

i say wear what you are comfortable in as long as it is professional, if you feel like a fool in a suit then dont wear one as it will throw you off but do wear something decent, this also is depending on the industry, executive can mean a lot of different things

A sport coat/blazer is too casual. A suit with a pressed blue shirt (blue is a power color) is always more professional.

Has common sense really gone away this much? Dress for the job. Research beforehand. Walk into the place one day to see what everyone wears if you aren't sure.

As someone who has interviewed hundreds of job applicants, I'd recommend you dress for the interview, not the job.
Many people don't get jobs because they underdress for the interview, but I've yet to see someone go unhired due to overdressing.

Dressing well shows that you are taking your job interview seriously, plain and simple.

It's simple. Wear nice, respectable clothing that makes you feel good. No shorts, jeans, crinkly clothing. Get up early and put your best face forward.

And wear nice shoes. Old, Scuffed up shoes are not nice. Smell nice too with natural soap. Don't lay on the cologne.

2 words. Be Presentable.

And here is a proven point on how hr people differ in thought. I, also, have interviewed hundreds of people. Dressing for the job means more to me, not overdressing. You wouldn't show up for a carpentry position in a suit, unless you thought they wanted to hire a douche
