I would not recommend working and then challenging the course.
If you go to the government building at Room 127 340 9th, Manitoba Education and Training, they will help you with all of the procedures of getting funding, getting EI and apply for Manitoba Student Aid.
If you go this route to get your certificate, which is what I did, they pay up to 100% of your tuition, books are your responsibility, plus whatever you are entitled to through EI.
If you go this route, and actually take the course, if you decide to take the LPN course within 5 years there are a few courses that transfer over.
After working 8 years full time as a health care aide I am now going through Employment Canada and taking the LPN course. I think this is the best decision I've ever made.
