The others a little brain work would have avoided all your problems. 99% of the problems are your own fault.  
 
People whining they won’t get password before their booked flight. Who in their mind book travel without ensuring they have updated passports or passports for everyone. Own Fault.  
 
Then people whining to take so long to update their passport so they can travel. Ok passports are for 10 years now. Majority keep an eye on this and renew before it expires. Note. Renew is very easy except for ones who let it expire. Own Fault.  
 
Stop blaming pandemic. Many things changed to online. Pandemic itself didn’t make us brain dead. If you laid around not doing anything. Now want to travel and need passport. Again Own Fault. There isn’t a magic switch that turns everything back to pre-pandemic world. We will never have this switch. Now we have monkey pox to worry about.  
 
Though if they offered small pox vaccination to everyone who wants 5 years and older would help the situation a lot.  
 
Last words. Not everything is any government fault. Sometimes we have to look inside slap ourselves on the forward and say dam.

I agree entirely. Take care of your own business and quit blaming the government when you screw up.

So here's my situation. We applied for my baby's passport in March. They told us it would be 5 weeks. (They're now reporting longer wait times, but it was 5 weeks when we applied.) We wanted to travel in July, so even with some delays we thought it would be find.  
 
Fast forward to end of June - it's been 11 weeks, nobody will get back to us about where we are in the process, and we can't book anything.  
 
Not everyone can go stand in line all day in Winnipeg. It would have been nice if they had been honest about wait times when we inquired.

I applied in February, and still no documents back. I was told I would have it back by April 11th and to call if I hadn't recieved it. Was able to get through a couple times to check on the status in April, but I can even get through now on the phone. And no response by email as well.

You are wasting your "breath" here. I am not saying you are wrong, because you are one hundred percent correct. However, what you are saying can be applicable to almost everything that goes wrong. The majority of the world's population has issues with taking any accountability. It's far easier to blame someone else dontcha know?

Do you have the option to go stand in line and pay for a rushed one now that the documents have already been processed?? Or is it just you're out of luck and you have to sit around and wait forever?

So how would that work then with the photos? Would they not be expiring within that 6 month wait? That is a bit nerve-wracking.. I mean, after all that and then declined because photos are expired?

Can we apply a little bit of critical thought here, please?  
 
The government is backlogged with passports due to covid and the influx of requests. Clearly passports expired because people were not travelling. Remember, for the past few years we've been told to keep non essential things on the minimum. I would consider getting a passport renewed to travel a pretty pointless endeavor to consider during the height of the delta and omicron waves. And most would think that's a fair assessment. People lost their jobs, costs went up, and paying to renew a passport was not - and arguably still is not - an o:bjectively high priority if its just for pleasure.  
 
To blame this backlog entirely on people not being proactive is a failure to see a situation for what it is. It's a problem of circumstance, not individuality.

I have a hard time understanding how the cost of renewing a passport was too expensive, when you have the cash to take a trip as soon as things start to open up.

Passport vs trip cost Ha! That is funny!  
 
(BTW - in 2019, I waited 7 months for a passport)
