For all of you taking gravel to avoid the construction. Just a word of advice and slow down when you pass people. And when there is a yield sign, slow down! Almost been hit twice by cars I've never seen around my place before. And have about 3 new stone chips because people don't slow down and leave me a cloud of dust to drive through. Like use your head...

Totally agree with you....but sadly it won't happen. I grew up outside a small town where you slowed right down to oncoming traffic, gave a smile and a wave as you went by, and did the same for pedestrians. It's just common courtesy. But many people around here seem to severely lack such a thing. I take gravel out to the Far East end of town every day, and I can almost guarantee I meet at least one jacka** on my way to or from work.

Well if I see someone coming at a high rate of speed with a huge dust ball and stones flying I stay right in the middle of the road until they slow down and move over. Call me what you want but I don't have chips in my window from them.

I must have missed the sign on all gravel roads that states its the law to slow down when meeting on coming traffic.  
 
I was under the impression PTH gravel roads were 90 km/h.  
 
I have been driving on gravel roads for 35 years and usually at least 50 miles per week.  
 
For me, I can usually tell what kind of road will throw stones and which ones will not. Not all gravel roads are built the way they should be.

Yes, you missed it, it's called common courtesy

Like Opinionated said, it's common courtesy. No law stating you have to but every gravel road in existence has is naturally covered in gravel, gravel will get thrown and chip windshields.

Like I said in my last post - not all gravel roads are created equal - no, not all gravel roads have are covered in stones - you ever see a really well made road with the alleys up them from the tire marks - throws very little dust and no stones.  
 
I can drive on some gravel roads for miles without driving on a stone.  
 
BTW - there is a difference between common sense and common coutesy.

of the gravel roads in my area were just graded so it's not so easy to travel at 90kms unless you want to fishtail all over. Pretty much most gravel roads are fairly narrow and I know this is sometimes not a good idea but if you see someone coming towards you really fast on the gravel road just stay in the middle....they will slow down. This may be Brave or Stupid but it works.

There are gravel roads I will travel fast on and those I will not. I find that there are too many asses who feel they need to fly over the 90 kph limit but I generally slow to oncoming traffic except if it is clear they are not doing likewise. I tend to slow down at crossroads where stones are thrown a lot more but I find in 20 years living on gravel I have gotten all my stone chips from driving the paved highways. I always slow down to a crawl when people are walking the gravel roads but honestly why is this expected except for courtesy? As a driver I would expect the courtesy of people moving a little more off the road and making sure their pets and children are well within reach.

These "alleys" have the loose gravel worn or moved to the sides from traffic, but you don't stay in the alleys when meeting traffic. You pull over, therefore you probably are into some loose gravel. Of course some of it depends on tires, how aggressive or depth of tread to allow stones to enter. Someone once told me you won't throw stones if you are slowing down when passing someone. Tough theory to prove! Drive safe on them gravel roads folks.

Im a long distance runner who often runs the gravel roads such as Richmond and Patricia and the roads in beteween. 75% of the drivers on the road will slow and move over, however others will just move to the centerline, and continue to travel at full speed. I have been hit by flying stones many times.  
 
I often wonder would they do the same if i was dressed as a police officer, or was one of thier family members or a child.  
 
Sooner or later i am going to have had enough, i will have a rock in my right hand and will trade stones with one of these idiots.  
 
Honestly have some common sense, slow down when you pass a car or truck, slow even more if it is a pedestrian. 15 seconds for you to slow down and show some respect for your fellow neighbours wont make you late for supper!
