We are booking a vacation in the U.S. and need a car rental. Wondering if anyone has ever used the website carrentalsavers.com Also wondering about Liability insurance. Do I purchase that in Canada or thorough the car rental establishment.

Purchase your insurance here. Cheaper and better insurance. They will try to upgrade you or convince you different when you pick up your rental. Just have a copy of your insurance you purchased here.

I travel a fair bit and use rentals often in the US. Buy your insurance from MPI at any agent here before you go on your trip. Last time I bought - about 3 months ago - I paid a $15 fee plus $7/day of driving, so the week was approx. $64.00. Much cheaper and better coverage than you get from the rental co. As Bluebell said, have it with you but I have never been asked to produce it - when it's offered I tell them I have insurance and don't want theirs' and that ends the conversation about it.  
 
Also, when you pick up your rental, do a walk-around inspection and photograph all 4 sides of the vehicle, the hood, roof, and trunk lid. Do the same thing when you drop it off. This protects you from claims of damage after the vehicle is returned. I make sure the agent sees me doing that and has saved me a lot of hassle over the years.

Google "Dollar rent a car complaints"..will be over a thousand blogs of people getting ripped off by unethical business practices..Watch out for Vehicle Loss Damage,,Buy your insurance before you go. Check you invoice before you leave registration kiosk,,You will not be able to ask for adjustments after you signed invoice,,,Gps,child seats,will be charged per day,Extra drivers is also an additional cost,,Check with Mpic..good luck,,

I would check out the prices on carentals,expedia etc,and then book directly with the car rental of your choice. I would avoid Dollar,thats my opinion from bad experience...
