Just looking for some advice and experience going on a warm winter vacation with a baby under a year old. Any recommendations and ideas for locations and activities? Any trips/outings you wouldn't do again? We also have a 4 year old. Time frame is flexible- could be a week anywhere between November and March...just looking to escape what's predicted to be a nasty Manitoba winter! Thanks!

Went to Barbados for a week, rented a condo near the beach, was great. Kids much older tho. Upside is beaches aren't crowded, very low crime, great health care should you ever need. Weather always great. Downside is it isn't as cheap to get to as some other destinations  
Don't know if that would suit you but an all inclusive with crowded beaches doesn't sound like a place for a baby.

We have been traveling to Phoenix area every year since our children were babies. My parents have a winter home there but you can find cheap weekly rentals, depending on how many bedrooms and amenities. If you don''''t get one with a pool in the backyard, try to find one in a gated community or park with a community pool/centre. We fly Allegiantair out of Minot, Bismark or Grand forks to Gateway airport in MESA, depending on price/dates. Even with the exchange, it''s still cheaper than WestJet/ Air Canada out of Winnipeg/Regina. Another reason to fly out of the states is that you don''''t need a passport for your children. Just a birth certificate to get across the border and identification at security in the airport.  
There''s lots to do in the Phoenix area with babies and children. Google it! Even if you just chill, go for walks and to the pool, it''''s great to have a break in the winter!

Check out Sanibel Island Florida. We have been a number of times now and love it more each time we go. Many places to stay when you go but we have always stayed at the Pointe Santo condos. If you get one that is on the ground level you can walk directly out the patio doors onto a grassy lawn and right to the beach or pool. We always stay in the same condo (right near the beach and ground level) and we are about 30 steps to the sand.

Another big plus was the driving. I was able to rent a van and easily drive to and from the airport (and all around the island) without any worry. Traffic laws, language, currency and food was all familiar and very low stress. I hate having to worry about fussy eaters, brand name diapers or traffic when on vacation.

I should have mentioned in my post about AZ... the weather is cooler until late February - early March. Not exactly outdoor swimming weather but still nice enough not to wear a jacket. Anything is better than the MB winter. So if you are looking for a place with a pool, make sure it's heated.

A personal favourite of mine is the 'Dodged a Bullet' resort. It's located fairly close to Zihuatanejo, MX. The thing that keeps me going back is the exquisite vegan cuisine they serve. That's not all they serve, though. Being ocean-side, they do have an abundance of fish on the menu.
