Lester “The Silver Fox” Patrick (1883-1960)
Was one of the founders of ice Hockey, as we know it today having suggested many of the rules used in the NHL today.
Born in Drummondville, Quebec on December 30, 1883. He was a professional Hockey player on the Brandon Manitoba team that was defeated in its bid against the Ottawa Senators in 1904 for the Stanley Cup.
Lester Patrick and his brother Frank formed the Pacific Coast Hockey League in 1911, which is today named the Western Canada Hockey League.
They also built the first artificial ice rink in Canada.
Lester Patrick was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1947. A trophy named after him is awarded by the NHL to one candidate for outstanding service to hockey in the U.S.
He died on June 1, 1960, in Victoria, B.C.
