Margaret Laurence 18th July 1926 – 5 January 1987  
 
Born in Neepawa, Manitoba, following the death of her mother a maternal Aunt looked after her family. She married John Fergus Laurence, an engineer. In 1952 she gave birth to a daughter Jocelyn, and a Son David in 1955. She separated from her husband and moved to London in 1962, her divorce was final in 1969. In 1986 Laurence was diagnosed with Lung Cancer that was terminal. She ended her life at her home in Lakefield on January 5th 1987 when she was 60 years old. She is buried in her hometown in the Neepawa Cemetery, and the house she was born in is now a Museum dedicated to her memory.
