Currie, William was born February 28th 1834

In Lanark Co, Ontario. His parents were Robert Currie a Scottish Civil Engineer, (died in 1853 at 64 years of age) and Anne Wilson, (died in 1864 at 73 years of age).
They immigrated to Canada, and in 1849 purchased 400 acres in Osborne, Huron County. William Currie was educated at Lanark Co. and left home when he was 23 years old and was employed as a clerk in a general Merchants Store at Almonte, Lanark Co.
In 1860 he moved to St. Mary’s, Perth Co to work in the Mercantile and Grain Business.
In 1861 he married Ellen Creighton, the daughter of James Creighton of Blanchard, Perth co, Ontario. They had six children, Robert Wilson, Margaret Anne, Harriet Ellen, William James, (he died before 1906) James Weldon, and Lottie Louise.
In 1879 he moved west to Manitoba and Homesteaded from 1880 to 1893 at Currie’s Landing on the Assiniboine River, this location was later named after him.
He was the Shipper/receiver of all freight from the River Boats traveling the River. In 1893 he was appointed Bailiff for Brandon and District and held that position for nine years, he also sold real estate and Insurance.
He resigned his office in 1902 and moved across the river to Brandon where he again sold real estate and insurance.
He died at Brandon on 30 March 1931.
