1039 Louise Avenue, Brandon, is designated a Provincial Heritage Site.
This house stood alone on its corner for the first ten years of its existence. It has been called the finest example of Eastlake style of architecture in Manitoba. The Eastlake style is distinguished by an abundance of ornamentation produced by chisel, gouge, and lathe. The building exhibits elaborately turned posts, curved brackets and spinal work to be seen in abundance as part of the two-story porch of this house. The peak of each gable is treated in an energetic manner with a bargeboard playfully decorated by both a semicircle of knobs and designs cut into the wood with a fret saw. The side of the house facing eleventh Street contains one of the finest stain glass windows to be found anywhere in Brandon. It was used for many years as the home and Clinic of W. A. Bigelow M.D. More recently, May 23rd 1984, the house has been designated a provincial heritage site by the Manitoba government.
