Oct. 30, 1899 - More than 1,000 Canadian soldiers set sail from Quebec

to South Africa and the Boer War. Among them were Brandon district men, namely Sergeant J. Bradner, Corporal Armstrong, Privates McGregor, Halliday, Fleming, Yates, Winterbloom, and Mills. Stirred by thoughts of adventure, and action in strife torn South Africa they had applied to join Winnipeg’s ‘Canadian Volunteers’.
