For my blog I thought I would take a look back at Manitoba Halloweens of yesteryear.
Generally they've been pretty tame affairs. Broken windows, gates ripped off hinges, hay bales set on fire and hydrants opened make up the worst things to happen.
1939 was an active year. It came after the Depression where Halloween was pretty much put on hold and people seemed eager to get out and have fun.
It was one of Brandon's worst Halloween nights. Aside form the usual pranks, fences were pulled down and youths barricaded streets and felled power lines. It kept the police busy all night.
