December 16, 1939 - at 1:00 a.m. the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan agreement was signed by Prime Minister Mackenzie King.
Though an international agreement (Canada, UK, Australia and NZ), Canada would be the centre for most of the activity with 107 schools nationally – including Brandon. By the time the program ended on March 31, 1945 a total of 131,553 students, (50,000 of them pilots), would be trained.
A very good history can be found at the RCAF website.
