I thought I would start this up again. It's better than Sunday night TV !
18 September 1861 E. Cora Hind was born in Toronto. She came to Manitoba in 1882 and worked for many years for the Free Press writing on agricultural issues and was appointed the Commercial Editor in 1906. She also was a Maclean’s correspondent. She was a driving force behind the movement to provide women the vote:

September 16 1870 Manitoba gets its first “premier”, sort of. Alfred Boyd (c1836-1908), Winnipeg businessman, was appointed as Manitoba’s Provincial Secretary in the Executive Council and Chief Minister. It would not be until 4 years later that the chief minister of Manitoba would also be in the government, making them a Premier. Boyd street is named for him.
The next day Louis Riel would return to Manitoba to assist in forming a new government.
September 20th, 1883 Town of Minnedosa passes bylaw 15 to issue debentures for $20k to purchase land, right of way and necessary services in town for the Manitoba and North Western Rail Road Company to run a rail line through it.
September 16, 1893 Calgary becomes Alberta's first city. Pop’n: 4,000
18 September 1931 John Arbuthnot (b St. Catharines, Ontario 1861- d Victoria, BC 1931) Businessman involved in the lumber industry and Mayor of Winnipeg (1901-1903).
September 16 1914 the Canadian Aviation Corps, forerunner to the RCAF, is created under the command of Sir Sam Hughes.
May 16, 1930 (Old) Tribune Bldg. fire at 211 McDermot Ave. in Winnipeg

September 16 1984 Pope John Paul II visits Winnipeg in his first papal visit to Canada. Fort Simpson NT was also to be on his itinerary but could not land due to poor weather.

September l7, 1994 Bomber Blaise Bryant nets 249-rushing-yards at Ivor Wyne Stadium, setting a new Bomber record. It is still the third highest single game rushing total in CFL history
