A Victorian Christmas at Daly House
11/28/2007 at 7:50 AM
The members of Daly House Museum at 122 - 18th Street cordially invite the citizens of Brandon to view their Christmas Decorations. They and their staff have spent many hours decorating the Vintage Victorian home of Mr. and Mrs. T. Daly to reproduce the feel of a Victorian family Christmas in the early days of Brandon. This year after 125 years of heating the Parlour with a wood burning fireplace the Daly House members have decided to follow the public trend and turn Daly House “green.” They have acquired a simulated coal, electric Fireplace, generously donated by the Re-Fit Store, 23 – 12th Street. The festive scene begins on the front porch where bunting adorns the front pillars of the porch. When entering the hall your eyes are entertained with, bunting, bells and candle decorations for the full length. To the left is the Parlour, filled with Christmas warmth with wreaths on the two windows, and with a brightly decorated Christmas tree standing in front of them. Below it runs an “O" Gage steam type electric train from Marx, circa. 1960’s. To the right of the tree are two lady visitors enjoying a Christmas Sherry. To the right of the visitor when they are standing in the doorway is the elegant fireplace with the newly installed electric simulated coal burner. As we proceed to the dinning room we see more bunting and decorations. From there we proceed to the kitchen which is also decorated with Christmas streamers and bunting. I have posted three images of the Parlour, but you must pay a visit to the house to feel the full ambiance of the facility. It is open for viewing Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Have a happy Christmas.
