December 01, 1869: The Hudson's Bay Co. officially transfers control of the North West Territory to Canada.
December 01 2004: Craig Media’s sale of its A-Channel stations to CHUM takes place.
December 01 1988: The first World AIDS Day is held to raise awareness of the epidemic.
Some 2007 AIDS Stats:
- 33.2m people living with HIV worldwide; 30m adults, 15.4m, women and 2.5m kids under 15.
- 2.5 million total new cases in 2007
- 2.1 million total deaths
- Sub-Saharan Africa has just over 10% of the world’s population, but is home to more than 60% of all people living with HIV - 25.8 million. The fastest growing region for infection is the former Soviet block.
December 01, 1962: Day 1 of the 50th Grey Cup is played. The game, also broadcast live to US audiences on ABC, was suspended with 9:31 left in the fourth quarter due to a zero visibility fog that enveloped Exhibition Stadium in Toronto. The Blue Bombers were leading Hamilton by one point: 28 to 27. The legendary Leo Lewis had two touchdowns and would pass for a third for a majority of the Bombers points.
December 2, 1962: Day 2 of 50th Grey Cup would take place. After the 9:31 was played no points would be scored and the Bombers would win the “Fog Bowl” 28 to 27.
December 2, 1961: The 49th Grey Cup game would be the first to require overtime. The Bombers Ken Ploen would score the final touchdown to defeat Hamilton 21-14.
