So my aunt has built an amazingly detailed family tree on Ancestry.ca. I would really like to do my own, but it would be great if I could build off hers, as it would take me MONTHS to gather and enter all the data she has. I was thinking I could either sync with her account or import her tree as a starting point. But I can't seem to find a way to connect with other family members. Has anyone else achieved this?

If she logs in to her account she can email it to you. Or it can be downloaded and then you could upload it.

If so, they have a great help section. Look for how to copy a tree or its also known as a gedcom file. The gedcom contains an entire family tree which can be exported by one person & imported into software by another person.  
 
Sharing a tree on ancestry usually means she gives you access to edit her tree, so that's not what you ate asking for.

Family Tree is related to Ancestry. You can do your family tree on there and share or add on. If the person is still living their personal information will not be shared. Site is also free. You can search some files like Passenger lists and census.
