If you go back into the early '70s, there was a market garden there.

Ron Cayer had a hamburger place there called Circle 8. Then it became a place that sold trailers, Activity World.

But circle 8 was where memories now stands.

there used to be a used car lot right at the base of the bridge, but I cant remember if it was on the east or west side.

I am pretty sure this property had been bare land prior to the build of the hotel. There was an ad in the late 1970''s in the Brandon Sun for the sale of commercial property in this location. Trails West/North 40 was constructed in 1981 and turned 35 years old this summer of 2016.  
 
The burger drive-in (Circle 8) and Activity World was north of the Trails West/North 40.  
 
In 1955, the land belonged to homes and market gardens, as previously mentioned.  
 
As far as I know, there were no business establishments in this particular location in the mid to late 1970's.  
 
At the time the Trails West/North 40 was built in 1981 it was bare land.

Just curious....does anyone have any of the "Trails West" Silver dollars that were handed out as a promo....I do.

Right Steveo. The owner was Mike Moroz in the late 1950's. Apparently the Moroz family had a Grocer business there selling animal feed, general groceries and maintaining the market gardens. This comes from the best source available. Family with great memories.  
 
Also double checked with Brandon Henderson (Street) Directories.  
 
There seemed to be no commercial business in this location in 1981 when the motel was built. It was bare land at the time.

I remember that now too. Wasn't it called The Flats? And the green house that is across from the 40 I remember she was the only one that wouldn't sell..

yes the couple in the green house were very much loners and didn't want anybody in their yard. stelmacks had the other market garden on the other side of 18th street

Stelmacks lived in the 300 block on 18th North.  
 
The Snye creek was between Maple and Hilton Avenue over the bridge.

The North End has always been called the flats historically in Brandon.  
 
The hotel was built in 1981. I remember the green house on 18th Street N.on the east side. as well.

my grand parents lived next door to the Stelmacks, and old man Maroz shot me with buck salt lol. good times back then.

What was Buck Salt? Sorry you were shot by old man Moroz.

He probably means rock salt, more urban legend than anything there was another spot between 26th and 18ty by the cn tracks that still had farm buildings and the rumor started by parents was they would shoot you with rock salt loaded in shoot gun shells if you went nosing around there, it worked kept us kids away never heard of anybody shot or shot at ever.
