I’m wondering if there is anywhere local or closer than Winnipeg that has sod? I haven’t been able to find any information for local just sod farms around Winnipeg

Have you tried the landscaping places?

Alternative Landscaping- 34th and Patricia  
(204 727- 7289). Just got a load in yesterday (Tuesday). Call to see if they have any left. They sell for around $3.00 a piece (5 ft x 2ft).

We avoided the middle man and got the truck to deliver. Payed way way less

Obviously the sod farm isn’t in the city of Brandon, but it is in the local area. And yes, they transport it from the farm by truck, even if the sod farm were within the city, it would be transported by truck.

Try Livingston on Park ave East.  
 
I got sod there last year and it was the best I’ve seen. And cheaper.

Well cool! Must be very new since there used to be only 3 sod farms in Manitoba and they were all East and South of Winnipeg. Where is this sod farm I'd be interested to hear.

I don’t know exactly where, but I was helping lay sod a Boyd Stadium last summer and the truck made a round trip of about an hour and a half, and that time i:ncludes loading the sod on the trailer. So

Not owned by alternative. That Boyd project was a good chuck of grass.

Not sure if it was 2011 or 2014, but there was a sod farm out in the Alexander area, one of my sons worked on it one summer. Was talking to the owner of it and he said that those years of high water caused real problems. Not sure if the existing sod farm is in the same location or not.  
Growing sod is sort of an intensive type of agriculture, and if things work it is a great business to be in, but there are a lot of variables that can affect it, something as simple as a rise in interest rates can slow residential building which means less demand for the product.
