Tipping?

Ok I know this is a sensitive issue with many people but I'm curious what everyones thoughts are on this issue.
My wife works at a local Brandon eatery and finds that people in Brandon dont know how to tip for the most part.
From my understanding of tipping, industry standard is 15%.
Im told that when my wife is serving, most people in Brandon that she serves are either not tipping or tipping much less then 10%
She has been in the serving industry for abou 10 years and every place shes served at she has excelled and has been one of the top servers for that establishment.
So I know she offers a high quaility of service so is rather deserving of her tips.
When I go out to eat, I will often tip atleast 20% if the service is good and if it exceedes my expectations I will tip much higher.
So please what is everyons view on this??
