Yellow Bags for Food First ...

The weekly paper has been distributed around town, and enclosed withing is a lovely and very noticable yellow plastic bag for the Food First Drive on Saturday.
It was discussed previously around here in this thread:
http://www.ebrandon.ca/groups_search.aspx?keywords=winnipeg%20harvest&sort=message_datetime%20DESC
and there is a very good article about the campaign here:
http://www.wheatcityjournal.ca/article/20100526/BRANDON0101/305269990/-1/brandon/bag-it-food-first-collection-saturday
The whole process is SIMPLE.
Take the bag - fill it with non-perishable food stuffs and place it on your front step by 10 am on Saturday morning, then an army of volunteers will canvass the community and pick up the bags and bring them back to the drop off point at Physio-First's location where the food is weighed, boxed, loaded on pallets to be delivered to Samaritan House.
YOU don't even have to get out of your pajamas !!!!
The needs at Samaritan House are greater than ever before. A few weeks ago an informal survey of those using the hamper programme revealed the startling statistic that AFTER rent, these folks are trying to survive on less than $ 110 a MONTH.
Instead of telling them to "make better choices" ... and all the other tired rhetoric that gets trotted out in appeals like this - recognize that those using the Hamper Programme at places like Samaritan House are POOR, and they need the food supplied through these agencies.
SO on Saturday - let's ALL do our part and leave the yellow bags on our door steps and help collect 10 000 POUNDS of much needed food for Samaritan House !!!
