Tipping

I was ready through some previous discussions that people have had on tipping, and was slightly offended. I have been a waitress since I was 15, and am currently doing so to pay for my university education. Now, there are many people who I have come to believe do not tip because I am choosing to work a minimum wage job, and am therefore not entitled to make more than the current $9/hour I am making. There are others who base their tip on the food that they have ordered as opposed to the service. I feel the need here to point out that I do not cook the food, and the cooks I work with will usually scream at me if I attempt to make them fix it before I take it out to the customer. Having a customer send it back seems to be a different story with them though, but I can't get something fixed unless you tell me theres a problem. When I work an 80 hour pay period, which is alot of time to spend running on your feet, I generally get about a $600 paycheque - all of which goes to bills or savings for tuition. Now, my running, to make sure that you don't have any negative experiences doesn't warrant my receiving something extra for all of my troubles? Or even worse, having a handful of pennies left on the table, saying that was all my extra effort was worth? I'll be honest, we remember who tips, who treats us well, and who doesn't. And that definitely affects your next visit, as horrible as it sounds. But what I don't understand is why you wouldn't bother. If you don't have the money to tip, then buy groceries instead.
