No I’m not cheap

My biggest beef is tipping. I don’t believe in it. It is not up to me to supplement the salary of service personnel. This seems to be considered mandatory in today’s world even if you receive bad service you still tip just not as mush as for good service. I say NO why am I expected to pay someone over and above their salaried compensation for doing what they are suppose to do , the job they were hired to do. Some very expensive eating establishments are the worst for expecting their patrons to compensate their employees because although the aforementioned places are raking in the dough they don’t seem to feel the need to share their take with their staff. The most oft heard argument is that if I can’t afford to tip the staff in a eating place then I should stay home, well if I did that along with several hundred other people not only would their be no tips how about no jobs. I believe service personnel should be paid a good wage in line with their experience and proficiency in doing that job, that is the responsibility of the employer, my responsibility is to buy their product be it food, whatever. When’s the last time you thought of tipping the cashier at a department store, that person has to stand all day putting hundreds of people through, where is the thank you for that, how about the guy who helped you pick out that jogging shoe or the person who explained very patiently and well how that new cell phone works or the computer salesman, the rep who sold you the insurance package, the list goes on. Basically what I am saying to management is pay your staff what they’re worth and don’t expect me to top it up!
