Butter tarts

Im not much of a baker, so please dont laugh at this question. But I want to make some butter tarts, and I have all the ingredients except CREAM for the filling. Can I use milk instead??? Please answer honestly as I don't want to screw them up.. I just don't feel like running to the grocery store! THANKS!!
