So happy to see that Sergio and Susan Lee are back! As of October 1st, along with life long friends, Terry and Ling Choy of Boissevain, they have taken ownership of the former Ye's site (foot of the Daly Bridge). The former YE's location will now be known as Lee's Buffet. Many long needed changes will be happening over the course of a month with their grand opening being held on November 1st. They will be incorporating many of the tasty oriental dishes they had previously prepared. Wonderful to see how many good old friends, and new, were at Lee's to welcome both families back into the restaurant business. Welcome Lee's Buffet! Good Wishes for Great Success!

How a chain restaurant of that size can be turned into a single owner one like that.

I hope they can do it, a building that size is awful expensive to maintain without franchise backing.

Anyone know if the current manager will be going back to Sushi Hut? That would be very good....

Lame. I liked Ye's more than Kam Lung. I'd love it if Soo's came back though.

I absolutely love Ye's. Its too bad.. I was just there on sunday.. Glad i got to experience it before the change disappoints me

Mollymaid mentioned "long needed changes". Is this with the menu items, or setup, price, etc?
Personally not a fan of buffets, but lots of people are.
Glad I'm not the only one old enough to remember Soo's. The sweet 'n sour chicken balls were awesome.

The current Kam Lung location was previously owned by Susan and Sergio Lee who retired and sold the restaurant 5 years ago. Terry and Ling Choy owned Choy's Chinese Buffet in Boissevain, retiring over a year ago.

Good news to report that if you were satisfied with Sunday's meal,Susan Lee had already taken control of the kitchen. The Lees and Choys are both experienced enough to know that you continue with the best foods currently at Ye's supplemented by the best from the old Kam Lung and Choys. I think you will see continuing improvements with each passing day. They have only been opened for 5 days.

You mentioned you liked Ye's better than Kam Lung. Do you mean the old Kam Lung or the current Kam Lung? Sergio and Susan Lee retired 5 years ago and Kam Lung is not the same today as it used to be.

Totally agree with that - the old Kam Lung was far better!

This has absolutely nothing to do with YE's in Winnipeg which is a franchise. The new Lee's Buffet is owned and operated by Sergio & Susan Lee and Terry & Ling Choy who together have 59 years of producing high quality food in Western Manitoba.

As stated they took ownership on October 1st so if you were this past weekend, you would have had the opportunity to see what was on the menu. I totally agree the coconut breaded shrimp is to die for.

The changes will be subtle and will definitely include some new dishes. Myself I would hope that each table has its own soya sauce, salt, pepper, sugar and sweetner as I feel terrible asking for these condiments when everyone is so busy.

hopefully they make very few changes as i was never a fan of Kam lungs, now or over the last 20 years we did like Yes for a treat tho, was the best Chinese in brandon imo

To sell a business to a new operator, watch them invest in much needed renovations costing who knows how much and open up in direct competition with them when you know your name will fill the seats? It just does not sit right with me. On that basis alone I will not be a customer of Lee's. Kam Lung has my full support

Ye's was very mediocre, as was/is Kam Lung. I've never ate at the place in Boissevain but had heard good things. Best Chinese in Brandon is Wah Lee (same family owns the one in Deloraine, which is better IMO) and the best Chinese I've ever had is in Melita.

It never closed just changed ownership...

Saying it's direct competition with the current owners of Kam Lung is a bit of a stretch.

If it has been 5 years since they sold Kam Lung, then I would say the new owners have had more than ample opportunity to make a reputation for themselves. Plus, when these restaurants are sold, I often hear they include a clause stating the outgoing owners will not open a competing restaurant for X amount of time. Usually it is much less than 5 years.

If they change their buffet menu drastically, I'm sorry but I don't see the new owners lasting long. As others have mentioned ye's is a very big building and if the menu is changed in the wrong way. The up keep will eat their profit and Brandon will have an empty building.

Wish the best of luck for the new owners and hopefully they are reading the opinions (both negative and positive ) of brandonites.

I was never a fan of wah lees in the past or the future. The other couple that owned the other restaurant, I have never tried them.

Hopefully they keep different types of meat and seafood dishes! And those of you that like ye's, go to the Winnipeg location. It is 10 times better than Brandon.

Sounds like an all-star team of sort!
We aren't loyal to any one buffet and spread our time between a few of them and had always enjoyed the food and variety when we went to Ye's. Will be interested to learn what new dishes/subtle changes they introduce.

Just to reiterate:
- nothing has closed in the transition
- the poster mollymaid seems to be fairly in the know and they have stated that changes will be subtle and will include some new dishes.

Don't know why some are making a big deal out of Sergio getting back in the restaurant business. he is taking over an existing business that was in completion with Kam Lung regardless of who is in charge.
