Kitchen aid artisan food processor drive adaptor

Ok so I was gifted a food processor recently and used it a few times so I know how to work it.... However, now the drive adaptor is stuck in the machine. Can't get it out. Can't even get the bowl off to wash it.. Has this happened to other owners? If so what did you do with it? I'm at a loss and frustrated!! Of course the kitchen aid customer care thing is closed on a Saturday!!
