We are putting on a wedding social and some people have asked about getting 2 different kinds of tickets for the social - one for people who will be attending and one for people who will not be attending. Is this a new norm? If so, what would the wording be on the ticket for people who will not be attending? Thanks!

I'm in the process of doing the same thing and I had more tickets printed than the venue can hold. I'm putting aside tickets for people that won't attend but are just buying to support

I bought tickets for a friends social 8 years ago that was waaaaay too far away for me to attend, so rather when I sent her the money, I was sent a little ticket that basically was "thanks for your support". I thought it was a fantastic gesture on their part.

I had a friend who printed up numbered tickets to the maximum capacity of the hall and then a certain amount of un-numbered tickets or "ghost" tickets for friends who wanted to buy a ticket but knew they couldn't attend.

We printed off regular tickets for those who knew they planned to come and numbered them. Then we printed off a few that said support ticket cause some just wanted to support us but not attend or couldn't. We also set a few extra on the side as a few people who thought they could come had something come up so we just sold a few from the extra batch, when we knew a few could no longer attend. This way if your venue can only hold 150 people and you only sell 150 tickets and then 50 people don't show up because they didn't intend to then you don't loose out on inviting people who would have come. You just ask if they want to buy a ticket for your social if they aren't sure they can come ask if they want a support ticket instead worked well for us. You want to fill the social with people who plan to attend so this helps you do that and its nice to have the support ticket for those who cant make it.

We printed 2 types of tickets for our social. Tickets for people who could come were $10 and donation tickets for those who couldn't were $5. I don't know if it's the new norm though. We did it because we didn't have a very big venue.

For those that did the 2nd ticket, was your wording on the second ticket? Your names and "thanks for the support"???

Where do people get their tickets printed?!

In reply to JBJB, most DJ services porived the tickets when booking their services. You may want to talk to who you have secured as your DJ to see if they do.

A new thing i have also been seeing for people who cant attend but buy tickets: on there behalf they put there name in the raffle prizes the ticket ballot says thanks for your support

When I did mine I just had two coloured tickets. Yellow for an actual ticket, blue for donation tickets because I made a draw for the donation tickets as well.  
 
Wording was the same. Day of the social I accepted both tickets because sometimes people change their mind. Sold out the actual tickets but there was no way I had 250 people into the hall I rented
