Did the rules change for safety inspections? The used to be 55 bucks I know. Anyone know what they cost now? I couldn’t find it on the website.

I believe they are now around $120 and up. All depends on the garage.

The provincial government scrapped the $55 last year. Shops can charge their own rates. You’d need to call where you want to go and ask them as they can differ.

Shops typical charge one hour labor for a light vehicle safety now. I know Garage Mahal on Braecrest does them for $89. Dealerships can be $120-125.

Safety prices.

The $55 safety was nice for the consumer but when you charge that the shop suffers unless they get the spin off repairs from the safety as well.

There was no profit in it for a shop at $55, and they can now charge what they want. Transport truck has been that way for a long time.

The cost of a safety should be relative to the amount of work required to perform the safety. At $55.00 the shop was being short changed. Ultimately that's bad for everyone involved.
