Point in Time Count Assistant
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation (BNRC) participates in the annual Point-in-Time (PiT) Homelessness Count supported by the Government of Canada?s Reaching Home program. The Count helps communities better understand homelessness in their local area while contributing to a broader picture of homelessness across Canada. Everyone Counts, the nationally-coordinated Point-in-Time Counts, are an important piece of this national understanding.
SCOPE
The BNRC is seeking an organized, reliable, and enthusiastic Point-in-Time (PiT) Count Assistant to support the planning and delivery of the PiT Count in eight (8) communities: Brandon, Portage La Prairie, Selkirk, Steinbach, Morden, Winkler, Dauphin, and Swan River.
Under the direction of the Reaching Home Manager and working closely with the PiT Count Coordinator, the successful candidate will assist with community outreach, volunteer coordination, travel to rural communities, event logistics, and administrative support.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- A positive attitude and willingness to assist with a variety of tasks.
- Experience working with volunteers, community organizations, or event coordination is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of homelessness, community services, or nonprofit organizations is a benefit.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or early mornings during the Counts
- Valid driver?s license and access to reliable transportation
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
This is an 11-week term position, starting in mid-September and going until the end of November
RENUMERATION
The current wage for this position is $21 per hour for 25-30 hours per week, for an 11-week term.
WORK LOCATION
This position is based on-site at the BNRC Main Office (440 Rosser Avenue) and will require travel to rural communities within Manitoba.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with planning and coordinating activities related to the Point-in-Time Count.
- Travel with the Coordinator to rural communities throughout Manitoba to meet with community partners and support local planning activities.
- Assist with recruiting, organizing, and communicating with volunteers.
- Help coordinate volunteer schedules, training sessions, and event logistics.
- Pick up and deliver supplies and materials as needed.
- Assist with preparing volunteer packages, surveys, and resource materials.
- Provide administrative support, including data entry, document preparation, and organizing project files.
- Attend community meetings and assist with note-taking when required.
- Support communications with community organizations and service providers.
- Perform other duties related to the successful implementation of the PiT Count.
