I'm just curious to know if anyone has ever sold on eBay? How does one go about doing so, and is it difficult? Any info anyone might have that has personally done so would be greatly appreciated.

I sold on ebay once. I only listed within Canada so I didn't have to deal with international shipping, but I'm sure I got less bids because of it. It was pretty simple. Connect your paypal account, list item and set a price for shipping. Then just ship it.

Ebay does have a lot of buyer protection and when starting out, if you get a bad rating you might be done. Also taking pictures of the packaging and how you pack it up is a good idea in case someone files a disputes and claims insufficient packaging for cause of damage in transit.

years ago I sold on ebay. I didn't use paypal at the time... but am thinking of selling a few things again and was wondering about setting up with paypal..do you need to use a credit card with paypal, or can you just set up a separate bank account just for ebay..I don't want to link my regular bank account with ebay or paypal...anyone have any experience with selling on ebay using paypal? thanks

back years ago. When they Ebay started taking 10% and CDN shipping got expensive, I have not sold much.

Good experience in some ways. I have been burned before by a seller, but Paypal got my funds returned to me. As a seller you are also protected. Anytime there is a transaction discrepancy, Paypal investigates both sides of issue. Paypal and eBay are separate companies now. I find Paypal to be very secure. On a side note: If you are paying in USD, linked to credit card or bank account in Canada, they charge you 2 or 3 cents over and above the daily bank exchange rate. Cost of convenience, I guess. If withdraw to CDN bank account via Paypal, you will loose 2 or 3 cents on the daily rate. I have a US based account for this reason and withdraw in US funds.

I have am a eBay buyer with 100% feedback and over 200 feedback. I would recommend staying as far as possible from eBay selling. I have sold about 10 items and have been burned about 75 percent of the time. Here is why:

1. The fees. eBay usually allows sellers to post on eBay for free, but charges an insane final value fee. There is also a separate fee for PayPal Usage, which is mandatory.

2. Scams. PayPal is a heaven for scammers. They usually check on sellers feedback rating to make sure they are new and don't know the rules before attempting the scam. PayPal seller protection allows the buyer to claim that they never received the item anytime within 6 months of the sale. Seller must provide tracking number if the item is valued under $250, and both a tracking number and a delivery signature if the item is valued over $250. Proof of shipment is meaningless and if these requirements are not met the buyer automatically wins. Tracking numbers usually expire before 6 months and they also don't display information after it leaves the country. If the buyer files a claim in this situation seller will always lose. Most scammers file a claim only a few days after payment even thou the item will not realistically reach the destination in that timeframe. If the buyer doesn't end up picking up the item then item is shipped back to the seller and the seller and seller is charged return shipping. Buyer can also claim the item was damaged during shipping, and then return their own broken item and keep your fully working one. As a last resort buyer can claim a chargeback with their credit card and get their money back. Seller will be charged the investigation fee of the chargeback. PayPal and eBay final value fees are never refunded if the buyer wins any dispute (can be hundreds of dollars). If buyer wins any dispute then PayPal will rip money out of the sellers paypal account. If there is no money in the PayPal account then they will charge your credit card. If you haven't linked a credit card then they will take it out of your bank account without your permission. If you you don't have either if these then they will hire a debt collector to knock on your door and harass you until you pay.

One of the questions I am curious about though, is, how is the shipping calculated? Does eBay automatically list the price based off of the buyers location?

And is selling to USA creat more headache? If so, could someone elaborate?

I sold once on eBay. And it wasn't a good experience. I checked off the box to "calculate shipping" well it calculated around $6. And the shipping was actually over $20 (for a small item that needed tracking) and you can't ask for more money after the deal is done (buy now). So I basically didn't make anything on my sale of my item lol

it depends on what you want to sell on ebay. may feedback is over 2000 at 100 per cent , and I sell in American currency. ebay has fees but you can work it out that it's in your shipping costs or in your selling cost

Wow..........never had any problems with E Bay or pay pal, they have actually helped me out receiving payment in at least one situation . But I guess you just never know. My understanding is that Paypal will be disassociating from EBay in the near future.

I buy off eBay all the time and have only had one problem. They sent something broken when I messaged them they offered me $3 back..., three dollars. It wasn't an "expensive" item. But a lot more then $3!

In almost any dispute, eBay will side with the buyer for a return/refund . Often screwing over the seller. Sometimes the seller will claim "item not as described " and in that case the seller must refund the buyer. If they don't send a shipping label to the buyer within 5 days, eBay will automatically refund the buyer and the buyer will also be able to keep the item!!

I don't really have any desire to sell on eBay, but your information will stick with me should I ever be tempted...sounds like a nightmare!

Unfortunately there are people out there on EBAY that don't play by the rules.

On numerous occasions I have purchased on EBAY with no issues at all, you will have people on there that prey on others and have no remorse for what they do. Myself I have a few people I trade with constantly and have never had an issues.

All i suggest is buyer beware and ask the seller many questions. Buy right Now are great options.

Years ago it was great..list,sell..make money.As others mention,Ebay now always sides with the buyers and they know it.So now there are tons of scammers out there who know how to get anything for free.Pictures of packing,postal slip copies,confirmation of item delivered, etc mean nothing anymore if you are in a dispute.
Besides their high fees,Ebay also takes 10% of the shipping fees.Plus they have a defect rating system on the sellers for things sellers have no control over..postal delivery times,buyers returning their broken item for your good one...and on and on.
Ebay community members have a saying.."if you can't afford to lose it,don't list it".Check out the forums on Ebay's community forums and you will get an idea of the selling climate there now.I sold there weekly for 14 years..still have 100% feedback for 3000+ sales.But now they have manipulated the search engine to favor the Chinese and big box store sellers so the small seller's items are hidden in search.Ebay even states that they have the right to hide your items in Search in their terms of service to which you must agree to before selling.
I am now happily on Etsy..miss the auction format but Ebay is just not worth the risk if you have antique or valuable items to sell.
