Hi there everyone. I have a LG hdtv, couple years old. I take care of it and everything, but the past week I turned it on and it worked for a few minutes then the tv screen just turned off and now the red little light that says it's in standby is still on but the power button on the remote and tv doesnt do anything. Does anyone know what happened here? If so, what needs to be fixed and do you know how much that will cost? Thanks for anyone who knows and can help me with this

This occurs when the capicitors on the power board are not able to discharge. These capacitors need to be replaced. It will cost approx. 200-300 dollars and may not be worth the repair. YouTube search will show you how to do it as the parts will be cheap (under $50) but the job itself is time consuming. I would think TV city could repair.  
 
Source: electrical eng. and had the same thing occur on Samsung, main cause is moisture presence during startup of shutdown.  
 
Quick Fix: unplug the tv for a few days and try to turn it on. This is not a permanent fix but should allow the unit to be turned on.

with a Panasonic. It was a great excuse to buy a bigger and better one!  

Thanks a bunch, I have a panasonic that ive had for 7 years and it still running lol not sure what kind of tv I want to get now...thanks again though for answering my question, I'll probably just sell my tv then for a 100 and just say it needs to be fixed. Taker easy

I can't remember what happened to ours and this was years ago but our warranty was up, so the place we purchased it wouldn't help us. So we phoned the 1-800 # in the manual and they had a set up a repair guy in town that was LG exclusive. TV was fixed no charge and still works to this day. Might be worth a shot?!

Bought 2 Samsung HDTVs within a year, they both died. Had my LG tvs for 5&3 years, and still going strong. Lemons in every bunch.

Just happened today to my Panasonic TV I had for 2 years but my LG from 5-6 years ago still working. I know what I'm buying next.
