Went to computer to find windows 10 had loaded. Now can't find any bookmarks, photos, etc. Where is a good place to take the computer to see if they are still on and can I access them?

The EXACT same thing JUST happened to me.  
I just don't know why though. I did an Adobe update this am, as I always do, but I am thinking that it was associated with installing Windows 10, which kind of makes me mad!!  
So, I declined, in two different steps, when it welcomed me to Windows 10 (!) and my previous Windows program, 7, re-booted. Jeeeez!  
Everyone in my family uses Juggernaut. They're pretty great there. Normal and down-to-earth.

I have been saying no to Windows 10 since it came out. Last week I had a message pop up saying that Windows 10 was scheduled to be automatically installed on such a such date. I immediately took out the date and put for it not to update. I keep checking all the pop ups now to make sure they don't try and sneak the upgrade on me again. That was sneaky.

Having some fun here: so what is normal... for a computer expert? Are there standards to judge by ?  
 
Are many other computer tech types not normal? They're abnormal? That sounds a little scary.  
 
The post makes you wonder if there isn't a direct relationship between computer tech ability and abnormalcy.  
 
I myself think not, but I'm prepared to admit that it does seem that many computer techies do live in a different universe ... but that doesn't make them abnormal.  
 
But for the OP, I hate it when Microsoft, or any other software provider does something to my computer without my express consent - if this is what actually happened to you. Be careful that you aren't being scammed.  
 

If you want to go back to Windows 7 / 8.1 I made a quick couple screen captures and uploaded them to imgur. Its pretty easy to roll back to windows 7 / 8.1

After you've rolled back to Windows 7 / 8.1 you can install a program called "Never 10" which stops Windows from updating to Windows 10

Out of curiosity, why not upgrade to Windows 10?  
 
I'm honestly just curious, I don't want a big debate about Windows vs Apple, etc... Just wondering if it's a hardware reason or "it's different", etc...

Mine downloaded it after I declined many times. I couldn't get my email to sync with it and Netset said it often doesn't in Windows 10. I couldn't find one thing I liked about it so I uninstalled it. It keeps trying to upgrade. Frustrated!

Bassman above mentioned a program called "never 10" which looks good for disabling the "get Windows 10" app. There is also another one that I use which is very simple to use and has worked well for me for months now. It's called the "GWX control panel"

no adware or viruses, just a simple easy to use program with one tab consisting of a few useful buttons to ensure Windows isn't trying to install Windows 10. There's even a standalone version meaning it doesn't even need to be installed on your computer. Just download and run.

Normal. That was a weird choice of words, wasn't it?!!!  
 
I guess all I meant was that they were all of these things - friendly, smart and professional!! I don't think computer techs are abnormal - that's not what I meant at all! In fact, I wish I knew what they did!!  
 
But very funny!

If you click on the windows icon in the lower left, the Windows 10 start menu will pop up. At the bottom left is "file explorer". Click that and your photos folder and others will appear as they did in Windows 7.  
 
Windows 10 browser is called "Edge". It replaces the IEs from previous versions. Open it. In the top right are a number of symbols. Click on the "three lines" one and your favourites/bookmarks will appear.  
 
These, are of course, if your windows 10 version installed properly. Mine did and I've had no problems. There are, however, some third party applications that won't work in Windows 10 , and these are no longer available. But there are replacements available.  
 
Windows 10 security is much stronger than previous versions so some older, less secure applications from less than secure sites sometimes do not download at all.  
 
All in all, I'm finding Windows 10 very easy to adapt to and use. It loads much quicker that Windows 7 and realy does allow you to continue pretty much as you did with Windows 7 or 8.

Open C: drive, you'll see a folder called windows.old  
 
Your favorites will be in there. The windows.old folder will automatically be deleted after a month. Microsoft is forcing people to upgrade.

It's because most of the things I have and really enjoy on my computer like my favorite games will not run on Windows 10.

If it runs on Windows 7 or 8.1 it works in 10...

Mine did that too. We decided to try it out, but our computer must be too old, everything ran incredibly slow. Then the speakers wouldn't work. So we went back, turned off the auto update, and speakers work again. Will stick with 7 until we get a new computer.

your files are still there , and so is your windows 7 for 30 days  
you can go back if you wish  
but eventually you will have to go to 10  
 
now why not windows 10 , there are so many reasons , one is that its not clear what direction windows 10 and the" edge " is going they don't have enough transparency to what Microsoft is doing or planning  
 
the two biggest new things in windows 10 are Cortana, and Continuum  
 
Now those two new features with windows edge and the automatic update and the no clarity on the 10 year / 5 year software assurance policy then you add since the operating system launched on July 29th, there has been a lot controversy of what information Microsoft collects to improve its services and functionality in Windows 10. If you agree to install Window 10 on your computer, you will be giving Microsoft consent to collect, by default, information about you, devices, application, search queries, application usage, and even when you use voice input such as speech-to-text.  
 
 
so basically in simple English, and not to be paranoid Microsoft can see anything you do on your computer , and now just like chrome , the egde can see everything you look at on the internet , and if you turn Cortana on they can hear everything you say 24 hours. and Continuum is only the first step to tie in your windows 10 DEVICE to everything else electronic in your life  
 
I am not saying if you don't upgrade that this will stop its coming no matter what , but windows 10 is doing it without telling people that they are doing it  
 
and with out letting people have a choice to opt out.  
 
I am not sure how they are getting away with this if you look back at end of Netscape , they got Microsoft in lots of trouble for doing 1 tenth what they are doing now  
 
I guess no one is gonna stand up to Microsoft now , google has been doing the same for years now

I keep a ton of stuff in My Favorites. Various forums I visit, favorite websites, tech information in various folders and sub folders. I also have user name and password hints in my favorites. Would I lose all this info if I upgrade to 10?

some stuff from the origin store does not. I'm not talking about brand new pc games, but some of my favorites from the days of the xbox have made it over to the origin store & won't run on 10 without a whole bunch of messing around with stuff that I just don't understand. It's easier for me to rock 7 until eternity so everything works the way it's supposed to.  
 
It accidentally downloaded 10 on my last computer it was awful The only upside was a few weeks later that computer bit the big one & now the new computer has 7 so I could download my stuff again & it works!

That's reasonable. Just be aware that Microsoft has ended mainstream support as of January 13, 2015. Therefore they don't release many (if any) security patches/updates for it, unless you've purchased extended support from Microsoft, which they don't tend to do for home use PCs.

The computer that I am using to post with right now has Windows Vista and I would LIKE to upgrade to Windows 10. We're not getting any upgrade offers here and would welcome the opportunity. We have a laptop that came with 10 and altho it's diffrent it's not a problem. What are my options??

All your current favourites and bookmarks will still be there in Edge - the new Windows browser that comes 10. You'll find them by opening Edge and clicking on the "three lines" symbol in the top right - that's the new "favourites/bookmark".  
 
Also, if like me, you don't want Microsoft collecting tons of information on your computer habits, you can disable much of their data collection capabilities - either when installing or after, by going to settings and "turning off" many of these features.  
 
Also, you don't have to use a feature if you don't want to. I don't use Cortano - Microsoft's "Suri" helper. Simply turn it off. I've also uninstalled some of the aps that came with Windows 10.  
 
Bottom line - all you have with Windows 7 will still be there when you upgrade. And you CAN customize Windows 10 more to your liking - take the time to find out how by going on line and trying a few things.  
 
In addition, to use some of the new Windows APs you need a Microsoft account - much like it is currently for Apple or Google.  
 
The upgrade is free until the end of July to users currently running a validated version of Windows 7 or 8. After that, it'll cost $130.00.  

that still has Windows 7 and wants to prevent Windows 10 from installing. Go to Windows Update control and set it to Ask you what to install before installing and then go to INSTALLED updates and REMOVE KB3035583 and when you reboot go back in to updates and see if it shows that update needs to be installed and RIGHT CLICK it and HIDE. This update will try and install again so keep an eye on all future updates.

I like Win 10. I get a fresh copy every Thursday sent as I Signed up for the insider program.  
 
I does take a bit getting used to but it beats win 7 and that god awful Vista. I like Win 8 but hated 8.1.  
 
Win 10 is not bloatware. No reason to be scared of it.  
 
As far as which computer shop? Geeks or that near 18th and Pacific. Forget the name. I bought a real decent used system some years back from them. I really have not heard any bad things about any shop though.  
 
Just try to go in informed a little or bring a geeky friend.
