I have a 7 year old Microsoft windows 7 home premium edition on my laptop. I am trying to gain some disc space because it now says I have 64 percent disc space left. I don't do any gaming, and don't do anything special except search the internet, use word pad, don't record anything etc. I was wondering if I could uninstall Microsoft works without it affecting how my computer works. I don't have Microsoft word, but I don't need it.  
It looks like Microsoft works uses about 1.2 GB so it is taking up a lot of disc space...I don't want a new laptop but my laptop is running quite slow now...any ideas? thank you

Buy a Solid state hard drive, will make your old computer fast as it can be. But at 7 years old you have to weight the good and the bad.  
 
Sure you will have a fast hard drive, but it's onyl as fast as the Processor and Ram. Which will be the bottleneck.  
 
1.2GB won't make much difference % wise for hard drive space. You would be best to delete all temp files. %temp% and temp DELETE all files. Do a disc cleanup and a disc defrag.

Install a free program called CCLeaner and run it. It will cleanup all the junk and temp files you have. But there is just too many things it could be to diagnose over the internet why your laptop is running slow. If you are so inclined take it to a computer shop for further inspection.

You don't really need to do anything. If it took you 7 years to use up 36% of your disk space, I don't think you have much to worry about for running low on space.

Like ultraguy says you don't need to do anything, you have lots of space left considering the operating system uses quite a bit of that percentage that is used
