Transfer payments

So, this is one topic that seems to ignite alot of anger and passion, but seeing as transfer payments seem to on the agenda in class, I thought I might bring it up here.
Basically, as it goes, the richer provinces financially support the poorer provinces, like Manitoba, to provide for an equality of life across the country.
Now, one person described it as "the richer provinces bailing out the poorer ones."
Besides being quite blatant about it, it is true.
However, I must say, who cares? What is the problem with Alberta and Ontario, and other provinces, supporting other Canadians to equalize the playing field a little? As a taz payer to Ontario, I know that some of my taxes are coming here to Manitoba to help support this province provincially. As I see it, it is my duty as a Canadian to help other Canadians. I mean, if Ontario was ever in need, then I would hope that the other provinces would come and help, if possible.
As I see it, and this is not a very nicely worded view, the richer provinces "own" the country. Therefore, residents from the richer provinces have the right to go anywhere. On the flip-side, because the poorer provinces are "property" of the richer provinces, then residents of these provinces can go anywhere they like as well.
Like I said, it's not nicely worded, but think about it. To an extent, there is plausibility in it!
Any other thoughts anyone else has?
