Speed Trap Warnings

Speed Trap warnings.
While I was browsing through a local major newspaper this morning, I saw an article from Toronto about a motorist who received a $110 ticket for flashing his headlights to warn oncoming motorists of a looming police speed trap. I thought that police traps or any other system used to slow traffic down to the legal speed limit had one objective, to do just that. If the public assist in this process, good for them, by ticketing the good Samaritans who give out warnings, the police have turned their speed control services into a money grab venture where their main objective is to pounce on a speeding driver to punish him in his pocket book. In an effort to stop speeding I thought we could enhance the use of radar detectors, illegally used by some drivers, by installing units along the roadside to operate these detectors and thus make this group of drivers follow the speed limits. If we really wanted to curb speeding, we could surely be forced by Autopac to install a recording unit in your vehicle, which could be reviewed monthly, and the owner of the car fined for every speeding infraction recorded. The article ends by saying that some provinces have laws, which may be used to fine good Samaritan’s, but Alberta and Manitoba laws give police some “wiggle” room when interpreting the evil of high beam flashing.
