On The Topic Of Common Sense...

Yes, Common Sense was a good thing. Unfortunately, Common Sense seems to be lacking in almost every country in the western world these days including this one. The lack of common sense is quite evident by the things this Liberal government has been doing in just the few weeks since being elected.
You can call Donald Trump a racist bigot if you want to, but there is a certain amount of reason in what he is suggesting about a temporary moratorium on letting in people from terrorist prone countries. It would be legal for him to do it too, something very similar was done by President Carter in 1979. The President does have the authority. Countries in the western world are facing the biggest threat we have faced since the Cold War, maybe even since World War II. You politically correct types on the left can try to deny that too if you want to. ISIS said that they were going to imbed terrorists among the refugees. It would be stupid of us not to at least consider their threat as a serious one. One of the Paris terrorists had been in Greece and was fingerprinted there a month or so before the terror attacks in Paris. He travelled through Serbia on his way to France. Passports can be faked, but fingerprints don't lie. There also have been some reports that ISIS may have the ability to produce fake passports. So only a fool would refuse to consider the possibility that there may be something to the threat of ISIS imbedding terrorists among the refugee claimants.
Certainly giving women the right to vote was a good thing. Of course women should have equal rights and not just in western countries, but in every part of the world. This brings me to another point. I have heard very little, if anything, coming out of the mouths of liberal types, including the left-wing, man-hating feminist activist groups, about the horrible abuse of girls and women taking place in third world countries that are mainly dominated by one particular religion. Instead, it has been conservatives and Christian groups, for the most part, who have been speaking up about this abuse and mutilation of girls and women in that part of the world. Instead of speaking up against it themselves, many of those on the left choose to laugh at us and ridicule us for speaking up about it. The liberal types say they are for women's rights, but do they put their money where there mouth is?
It wasn't very long ago that, right here in Canada, girls had to give up their rights to the rights of one particular religion. The girls had to get off the soccer field so that boys of one particular religion could play soccer. The boys of that particular religion claimed that they could not play soccer against the opposing team, the team that the two girls were on. So, the two girls on the team had to give up their rights and go sit on the bench. I never heard even one word from any left leaning liberal types on this topic, however, a right-wing Canadian radio talk show host put the topic up for discussion on his show.

So, to all of the left leaning liberal types out there, who are mainly the ones in favor of bringing a whole lot more people of this one particular religion into Canada and I never said that we shouldn't let any of them in, I ask you this. When the rights of all women in general have to go up against the rights of one particular religious group and it inevitably will happen again sooner or later, whose rights will you choose? Will you choose to support the rights of women in general or will you choose to side with the religious rights of one particular group?
Unlike some conservatives, I am not opposed to having a public health care system, if it actually works and I am not against paying taxes to support it if I actually see worthwhile results from my tax dollars. Common Sense would dictate that a public health care system should focus on important things like cutting wait times for life saving surgeries and treatments and provide funding for cancer drugs before, let's say, paying for things like sex change operations.
Yes, it was Common Sense to end slavery in the US, but there are still places in this world where slavery still exists. Oh, by the way, Abraham Lincoln was the president who ended slavery in the US. In case you didn't know, Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. If he had been in Canada he would have been a Conservative.
Anyway, when it comes down to Common Sense vs liberal academic abstract ideas, I'll choose common sense any day.
