What moth or butterfly is this? Its about 3 inches long and 1/2 to 5/8 inch thick.

Maybe it molted since the first pic. It seems smaller now and more caterpillar shaped. I added another picture

dagger moth?

yellow one looks sorta like a dagger moth. but you didn't i:nclude any dimensions.

Not quite sure what type of vine it was on. There are no grapes on that vine though. But yes i was thinking it was a sphinx moth after looking through that site

It''s 5 cm long. It does look like the Cottonwood Dagger Moth larvae. According to Wikipedia, it eats poplar, aspen and birch trees. I don't like the thought of this eating our birch trees, though.
