Cat Sore

My Cat has a sore on the back of his neck. Which tries to heal but he always seems to scratch it back to red raw.
Ive taken him to the vets and they just gave him pills to take but worked for a day, but now hes back at it.
Has anyone else come across this.
He doesnt not have mites nor fleas
