I guess because it is getting warmer, some people's cats are asking to go outside. And it seems there are way too many owners happy to indulge them..  
 
This is not only against the city by-law it is dangerous. It is also rude. I am a cat lover but my neighbor with the nice garden might not be, so I am not going to force my cat on them. It is not fair to say cats will be cats... Some people love them, some people hate them. If you have a cat, GREAT, but please keep it to yourself.  
 
There are bigger problems too... Letting out a cat that is not spayed, or neutered adds to the population problem. A cat without vaccinations will more than likely get a horrible terminal illness. They may get picked up or caught in a cat trap. MANY MANY cats are not picked back up from the pound every year and are put to sleep. People think their cat is wondering around for 2 weeks, but the truth is, it was at the pound and is now dead because you were not responsible. Do you know that your neighbor that hates cats can call the city and ask to have a trap placed in their yard?? Yes it is true, there are cat traps all over the place, do you love your kitty enough to protect them from this?  
 
If that is not enough to convince you, think about the dogs, the cars and traffic, and other cats. If a cat bites your cat it will leave bacteria in the bite wound, making it infected, this will probably lead to needing a drain put in surgically a high vet bill, and a bad experience for your cat. There are also many animal lovers that may catch your cat thinking it is homeless and keep it or send it to the pound.  
 
All cats should be at the very very least tattooed. A microchip is preferred. Also have a rabies vaccination, and an i.d. and a tag on their collar..BUT that is for emergencies, and accidental escapes. PLEASE do not let your cats outside, it is for their own good. There are too many cats running around right now, and I promise you many of them are not going to survive until the end of summer.
