Sad end to Cat Rescue
5/18/2010 at 10:21 AM
In March I took on a cat rescue which was posted on ebrandon, I have been going there every day to feed and socialize these cats who were left to starve by the owners son and daughter in law. I called to see if they would allow me to feed and place and permission was granted. I placed 5 cats before we suffered a tragic death in the family and all I could do was feed them as I needed to care for my children. Yesterday I went and the son was there, he informed me they were moving in and he intended to shoot all the cats. He motioned with a gun to his head. There are 10 left now. I explained this was cruelty, he said his wife is allergic and he has 2 dogs so they have to go. His wife called me later and barred me from the property, saying they were only going to shoot at them with a bb gun to chase them away. I explained this was cruelty. She said she belonged to the ASPCA and would see me in court. Every day these cats wait for me, I pet them all and they are very affectionate and trusting. To know that they will be approached and tortured is unbearable and clearly these are people who think cats are garbage and have no issues with this. As the area is considered rural, shelters are overwhelmed and unwilling to take these cats I urge everyone to reconsider getting a cat if you cannot spay or neuter it. This problem was created by people who are now unwilling to look after it and I can only enforce laws after the tragedy has unfolded, Devastating news for good intentions. For a month I had to look at dead cats laying around until finally someone took them away, no concern at all. I only went on the property to feed the cats, did not touch or move anything for fear of being banned, so I had to look at this day after day. Please support your local shelters, spay and neuter your cats.
